LITTLE ROCK The family of the man who killed Arkansas Democratic Party Chairman Bill Gwatney said Friday the shooting was "beyond our understanding," and offered sympathy for Gwatney's loved ones.

LITTLE ROCK Former President Clinton and others remembered Arkansas' slain Democratic Party chairman Monday for the grace-filled moments that were part of his private life and the unity he brought to Democrats in the last two political seasons.

Born July 1, 1921, in Morrilton, daughter of Emanuel and Maud Kennamer Scroggin, she was a housewife and member of First Presbyterian Church of Conway. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Nyberg, and a son, Ronald Nyberg. Survivors are a son, Michael R.

Survivors are two sons, Bobby Howell of Vilonia and Ritchie Howell of Conway; two daughters, Jo Anne Virden of Clarksville and Sandra Fraser of Conway; two sisters, Madie Pankey of Tucson, Ariz., and Margie Lee Hicks of Austin; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
